Reforms Urged for Drug Companies

I just came across the article, Reforms Urged for Drug Companies, on cnn.com/health. This is a MUST READ!!! Check it out.

The article immediately grabs your attention. It starts out this way:

"Two new reports involving the painkiller Vioxx raise fresh concerns about how drug companies influence the interpretation and publication of medical research.

A journal report criticized Merck for ghostwriting, minimizing Vioxx deaths.

The reports claim Merck & Co. frequently paid academic scientists to take credit for research articles prepared by company-hired medical writers, a practice called ghostwriting.

They also contend Merck tried to minimize deaths in two studies that showed that the now withdrawn Vioxx didn't work at treating or preventing Alzheimer's disease."

It is sad to say, but drug companies cannot be trusted and depended on as a source of health. Drugs should be reserved for emergency situations when the risks do not outweigh the benefits. These companies have proven themselves to be dishonest, deceptive, and manipulative over and over again.

Many times (not ALL times), we take medications for conditions that we have caused by poor nutrition, lack of exercise, or lack of healthy living. We then expect a magic pill to put us back together. I hate to be the one to let you know, but I don't think that's what God meant when He said for us to "honor His temple."

Be wary of the things you put into your body. We don't know every lie that every drug company (or the FDA for that matter) has ever told. Therefore, we cannot assume that the medications we are putting into our bodies are safe. Before you take that next pill or give your child that next dose of medication, ask yourself, "Do the benefits outweigh the possible risks?" If you can't easily answer that question, you shouldn't be taking or giving that medication. You can't simply sit back and think, "I know other people have had side effects, but that won't happen to me." I'm sure that's how most of the people who have had negative side effects (including death) have thought. These side effects ARE NOT limited to drugs like VIOXX!

I'm going to quote Dr. Catherine DeAngelis, the editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), "The manipulation is disgusting. I just didn't realize the extent."

I echo that. The manipulation is disgusting. It all comes down to money, folks. Sad but true.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE GARDISIL VACCINE. IT PROTECTS AGAINST THE HPV VIRUS AND CANCER?

I don't have daughters, but if I did, I wouldn't give the Garisil vaccine to them. I believe in teaching and promoting abstinence...just as the Bible teaches. I am planning to train my boys to save themselves for their wives, not to protect themselves as they sleep around.
I guess I'm old fashioned that way...you know, in believing and wanting to teach and follow the Bible. :)
Many blessings to you!

YES I DO KNOW. I HAVE NEVER HAS SEX AND I AM NOT GOING TO UNTIL I GET MARRIED. I FEEL I HAVE WAITED THIS LONG ON MY HUSBAND I WILL SAVE MY SELF FOR HIM. BUT IN PLANNING FOR MY FUTURE IN MY SAFETY AND MY FUTURE HUSBANDS SAFETY AND CHILDRENS SAFETY THE GARDISIL VACCINE HELPS PREVENT HPV WHICH IS NOT AN STD AND YOU CANT GET IT FROM HAVING SEX IT IS A CANCER (A DEADLY CANCER). AND I DO BELIEVE IN AND TEACH AND FOLLWO THE BIBLE. BUT IT ALSO SAYS WE ARE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT OUR TEMPLE. AND SINCE GOD HAS CREATED SOMEBODY SMART ENOUGH TO INVENT THIS VACCINE AGAINST THIS DEADLY CANCER THAT IS FOLLOWING THE BIBLE AND TEACHING IT TO OTHER PEOPLE. AND MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU THANKS FOR TAKING TIME OUT OF YOUR BUSY DAY TO READ MY COMMENTS.

I think it's AWESOME that are saving yourself for marriage!!! :) :) What a great testimony to share with your children!
I got this off of Gardisil's website and thought you might find it interesting.

"HPV Transmission—Who Gets it?
In Your Late Teens or 20s? More to Know About HPV.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) affects both females and males. HPV transmission can happen with any kind of sexual, genital contact with someone who has HPV—intercourse isn't necessary."

So intercourse is not necessary to get HPV; however, if you have genital contact with someone, you can get it. I intend to teach my boys to keep their genitals to themselves until marriage. I don't plan for them or any future daughters I may have to have any reason to prevent the cervical cancer caused by HPV. I plan to teach them to do what you've done...save themselves TOTALLY for marriage, the way God intends for us to do.
I urge you to look more into HPV and the Gardisil vaccine before you get it. I think there is a lot more to discover about it, especially since you've saved yourself for marriage. If you have saved yourself, and your future husband has saved himself or has been tested for HPV, you shouldn't have any reason to get the vaccine. As the commercial states, it does not prevent all types of cervical cancer, just that caused by HPV.
Again, I applaud you for remaining pure in such an impure world. Check more into HPV and Gardisil. I promise, I'm just looking out for your best interest. :)
God bless!

I have already got the HPV Gardisil shots and I am not dead now I have not had any side effects and I am perfectly fine and everybody that I know that has gotten the HPV shot had no side effects either. I say better safe than sorry not only on this vaccine but every single one out there you really need to think about that. And YES HPV is not an STD it is a deadly Cancer. Get your information somewhere else to support your answers. B/C it is a virus that causes Cancer. Not and STD. Oh and you wont prevent your children from getting the HPV Virus or cervical cancer good luck with that. (That sentence didnt make any since) But Good luck trying to keep yourself in your little clean bubble where you think nothing can ever touch you or you think you cant get any diseases. Good Look and God Bless

Don't worry about it. It's no problem. I hope you don't think I my last comment was in any way written in anger or with any type of sarcasm. I assure it, it was written with nothing but my best intentions and with a humble heart.
I will admit, though, I'm kind of confused. I'm not making the stuff I'm posting about HPV up. I got that quote from the Gardisil website. HPV is not cancer. It is an STD. It is an STD that can cause cervical cancer. Check out this information I got off a CDC website:

"What is genital HPV infection?

Genital human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI). The virus infects the skin and mucous membranes. There are more than 40 HPV types that can infect the genital areas of men and women, including the skin of the penis, vulva (area outside the vagina), and anus, and the linings of the vagina, cervix, and rectum. You cannot see HPV. Most people who become infected with HPV do not even know they have it.

What are the symptoms and potential consequences of HPV?

Most people with HPV do not develop symptoms or health problems. But sometimes, certain types of HPV can cause genital warts in men and women. Other HPV types can cause cervical cancer and other less common cancers, such as cancers of the vulva, vagina, anus, and penis. The types of HPV that can cause genital warts are not the same as the types that can cause cancer.

HPV types are often referred to as “low-risk” (wart-causing) or “high-risk” (cancer-causing), based on whether they put a person at risk for cancer. In 90% of cases, the body’s immune system clears the HPV infection naturally within two years. This is true of both high-risk and low-risk types.

Genital warts usually appear as small bumps or groups of bumps, usually in the genital area. They can be raised or flat, single or multiple, small or large, and sometimes cauliflower shaped. They can appear on the vulva, in or around the vagina or anus, on the cervix, and on the penis, scrotum, groin, or thigh. Warts may appear within weeks or months after sexual contact with an infected person. Or, they may not appear at all. If left untreated, genital warts may go away, remain unchanged, or increase in size or number. They will not turn into cancer.

Cervical cancer does not have symptoms until it is quite advanced. For this reason, it is important for women to get screened regularly for cervical cancer.

Other less common HPV-related cancers, such as cancers of the vulva, vagina, anus and penis, also may not have signs or symptoms until they are advanced.

How do people get genital HPV infections?

Genital HPV is passed on through genital contact, most often during vaginal and anal sex. A person can have HPV even if years have passed since he or she had sex. Most infected persons do not realize they are infected or that they are passing the virus to a sex partner.

Very rarely, a pregnant woman with genital HPV can pass HPV to her baby during vaginal delivery. In these cases, the child may develop warts in the throat or voice box – a condition called recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP).

How does HPV cause genital warts and cancer?

HPV can cause normal cells on infected skin or mucous membranes to turn abnormal. Most of the time, you cannot see or feel these cell changes. In most cases, the body fights off HPV naturally and the infected cells then go back to normal.

*

Sometimes, low-risk types of HPV can cause visible changes that take the form of genital warts.
* If a high-risk HPV infection is not cleared by the immune system, it can linger for many years and turn abnormal cells into cancer over time. About 10% of women with high-risk HPV on their cervix will develop long-lasting HPV infections that put them at risk for cervical cancer. Similarly, when high-risk HPV lingers and infects the cells of the penis, anus, vulva, or vagina, it can cause cancer in those areas. But these cancers are much less common than cervical cancer."

Here is the link to this particular website:
www.cdc.gov/std/HPV/stdfact-HPV.htm

If you do a google search of HPV, you'll find the websites I'm looking at.
You've already gotten the vaccine, so I'm a little confused as to why you asked me about it.
Anyway, that doesn't matter. I appreciate your apology. It means a lot. Like my friend, Shane, told me, we both have our minds made up about what we believe is right when it comes to our health. In that case, we just need to agree to disagree. I'm not looking for any kind of fight with anyone. I'm just trying to get the information that I come across on a daily basis out to those who are searching.
I wish nothing but the best for you and those you love. :) ""The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace." Numbers 6:24-26"
